EpiCentro: Epidemiology for Public Health

EpiCentro was conceived almost twenty years ago with the aim of increasing the visibility and accessibility of data and field experiences generated by public health professionals, while also fostering a two-way exchange between the central level and the Regions.

The website provides a solid knowledge base for those involved in decision-making related to prevention policies, health promotion and public health. Particularly valuable are the data collected through the structured information flows of the various surveillance systems.

Over time, as the Istituto Superiore di Sanità expanded its epidemiological surveillance activities, the sections of the website dedicated to disseminating their results also grew in scope and depth. The sharing of epidemiological data has therefore become EpiCentro’s core mission. Today, the platform hosts information produced by 19 surveillance systems and registers, playing a strategically important institutional role for stakeholders in both national and local public health.

EpiCentro is managed by the Centro nazionale per la prevenzione delle malattie e la promozione della salute (National Centre for Disease Prevention and Health Promotion) – Cnapps of the Istituto Superiore di Sanità, with the support of a dedicated editorial team.

Its development and ongoing content are the result of collaboration between the departments of Cnapps and the Istituto Superiore di Sanità as a whole, the Regions, Local Health Authorities, research institutes, epidemiological associations and individual public health professionals.
