Webinar: Fact-Checking on Israel and Palestine. Eva Benelli Interviews Arturo Marzano

Eva Benelli speaks with Arturo Marzano, Professor of History and Institutions of Asia at the University of Pisa and author of the recent book Questa terra è nostra da sempre (This Land Has Always Been Ours). The discussion takes the form of a genuine fact-checking exercise, in which commonly held assumptions and often distorted narratives that shape understandings of the history of Palestine and Israel are tested against the facts. The conversation also examines the role of Western powers in the conflict and explores possible solutions.

War always claims one additional victim: truth. The Israeli–Palestinian conflict is no exception. Alongside the real war, with its thousands upon thousands of victims, there is also a virtual one: the clash on social media and across the web between supporters of Israel and those who stand with Palestine.

Fake news abound, and the history of this conflict is constantly subjected to distortion and instrumentalization.

For this reason, we organized a fact-checking event to finally bring clarity to the issue.

On Wednesday, 20 November, Eva Benelli spoke with Arturo Marzano, Professor of History and Institutions of Asia at the University of Pisa and author of the recent book This Land Has Always Been Ours – Israel and Palestine.

It was a true fact-checking exercise, in which commonly held assumptions and often distorted narratives were tested against the facts, helping to clarify the history of Palestine and Israel. The discussion also addressed the role of Western powers in the conflict and explored possible solutions.
