European SIGHTSoHO project: the first round of online training has been completed

During the Live Closing Event held on 1 March, the first eleven weeks of training were reviewed. The programme involved 78 participants—inspectors, assessors and vigilance officers—from several European Union countries. The focus was on the new regulation on quality and safety in the application of substances of human origin (SoHO).

On 1 March 2024, the first round of the European distance learning project SIGHTSoHO (Strengthening overSIGHT through training and networking on Substances of Human Origin) came to an end. The programme was implemented under a contractual agreement with the European Health and Digital Executive Agency (HaDEA) on behalf of the European Commission. The training was coordinated by the Istituto Superiore di Sanità (ISS), acting as contractor, through the National Blood Centre (CNS) and the National Transplant Centre (CNT). Zadig supported the project as a joint tender partner, developing and managing the dedicated distance learning platform.

SoHO biovigilance, risk management, EU regulations and directives on medical devices, and the facilitation of the authorisation of preparation processes (GAPP) for blood, tissues and cells were among the topics addressed during the eleven weeks of distance learning, which featured a dense and wide-ranging programme.

The live event marking the conclusion of this first phase, held on 1 March, provided an opportunity to take stock of the work carried out so far within the SIGHTSoHO project. Overall feedback from participants—including inspectors, vigilance officers and assessors—collected through an emoji-based survey, was very positive. Weekly live sessions were particularly appreciated and recognised as valuable opportunities for exchange with colleagues from different European countries, as well as with tutors and external experts.

The project will continue with a second phase of in-person training in Rome next summer, followed by a second cycle of specialised training starting in February 2025.
